Post 17 - 2015 NFL Draft Day 2

Hello! And welcome to my corner.

Day 2 is over as we eagerly await the beginning of the 3rd and final day of the 2015 NFL Draft. The 2nd and 3rd rounds featured a lot more trades, players sliding, big shocks and some great value picks.

Here are some of the biggest stories from day 2. To see every pick, click here.

The Titans are building quite an offense. At the top of the 2nd round they drafted Dorial Green-Beckham of Missouri/Oklahoma. This gives Mariota (or possibly Mettenberger) an absolutely HUGE target to develop with, some people have even compared him to Megatron purely due to his size. However, he is very raw and there are a bunch of red flags next to his name for off the field issues that the Titans must keep in check.

The Giants also got a big time player. In a trade with the Titans, they picked SS Landon Collins out of Alabama. Collins is a player that will be able to step up immediately, and the Giants need him to, they don't have enough safety's to line up in a full defense. Like any prospect from Saban's Alabama, Collins is fundamentally sound, he's a leader and he's disciplined. This was a great value pick for the Giants.

The Bengals, at 21 (53rd overall) picked Jake Fisher, an OT from Oregon, even though they picked Cedric Ogbuehi, OT from Texas A&M, 21st overall. I understand the concept, best player available and all, but I'm sure there were players they had ranked highly in positions with bigger needs. Regardless, they now have 2 more great OT's who could step in immediately but will have time to develop and learn from 2 very good tackles.

The Lions, Ravens and Cowboys all got great value picks too. The Lions got Ameer Abdullah from Nebraska who should be able to do what Reggie Bush was meant to do. He's excellent at making people miss, he has great speed and he is a big receiving threat, he'll be a great addition to Joique Bell in the backfield, The Ravens, who traded with the Cardinals to leap frog the Steelers, took Maxx Williams, the tight end from Minnesota. The consensus top tight end was predicted to go earlier than the end of the second round, some had him going in the first round, so when we had the opportunity to take him ahead of the Steelers we did so. He fills a need and will likely make an immediate impact. The Cowboys got Randy Gregory, arguably the best pure pass rusher in the draft. Some serious character concerns and a failed drug test at the combine took him off several teams draft boards, except, of course, the Cowboys. If he can get his act together, then ths pick will go down as one of the better picks n the draft. To get such a talented player this late could be huge.

The 3rd round featured 3 more great value picks. The Texans selected WR Jaelen Strong, a lot of peoples 4th receiver dropped down a lot of draft boards and I'm not sure why. For a long time I wanted the Ravens to draft him in the 1st round and at times he was projected to go higher than that! The Falcons selected RB Tevin Coleman 3 picks later. Another player predicted to go a lot higher who will likely be touted as the Falcons number 1 back going into the season. The 49ers selected OLB/DE Eli Harold. Going into the draft he was Daniel Jeremiah's 26th best prospect and I really am shocked he lasted this long. For the 49ers though, they have really started to reinforce their weakened defense.

Going into the 3rd day there are several quality players left, who were expected to go yesterday or earlier. Headlining the group is T.J. Clemmings, OT from Pittsburgh. he was considered in the top 5 tackles the entire process, but an injury has caused him to slide down boards. Also available is Jay Ajayi. The RB from Boise State was considered by some the next running back after Gordon and Gurley, yet he has somehow lasted until day 3. Whoever drafts him are getting a great value pick. Finally, DT Michael Bennett from Ohio State was also considered near the top of his position.
