Analyzing the Baltimore Ravens' 2020 NFL Draft

Image
As we all remain stuck at home, with #45 rambling on about disinfectant, UV light and his various other musings on solutions to a situation he has gravely mishandled, we have none of our usual distractions. There is no live sport on the telly, the NBA and NHL playoffs aren’t happening, we’ve no baseball, the climax of football around the globe has been halted – shout-out Liverpool fans – and we can’t even go to the pub and drown our sorrows. Well, at least we had the NFL Draft to offer some kind of relief for three days and shed some light on the future of at least one sport. The draft was particularly sweet for me, as a Ravens fan, because, simply put, they draft better than any team in the NFL and that remained true this year. Round 1, 28 Overall - Patrick Queen, LB, LSU The Ravens got one of several steals with Patrick Queen. Queen was the Defensive MVP in LSU’s National Championship win over Clemson and was one of the best defensive players in college foo...

Post 31 - 2016 NFL Mock Draft 3.0

Image
Hello! And welcome to my corner! It's now just less than a week until the 2016 NFL Draft and I can't contain my excitement anymore, especially following the two blockbuster trades at the top of the draft order. With the trades hopefully over for now, here is my third and final mock draft. You can find my previous Mock Draft's here:  Mock Draft 1.0 Mock Draft 2.0   Los Angeles Rams (From Tennessee) – Jared Goff, QB, Cal -  The Rams made it pretty clear that they are drafting their QB of the future when they gave up so many draft picks to move up, and that guy will be Jared Goff. I believe that the Rams coaching staff and front office will feel as though Goff will be more like the QB they want; a guy that will sit in the pocket and rip you to shreds. Not to say that Wentz can’t be that, I just think Goff will be able to do that to a higher level, and sooner. Philadelphia Eagles (From Cleveland) – Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State -  With one QB defin...

Post 30 - 2016 NFL Mock Draft 2.0

Image
Hello! And welcome to my corner! The combine has been and gone and pro days are underway as hundreds of prospects continue their grind to become an NFL player. The first big wave of free agency has also been and gone, meaning current NFL rosters are vastly different to what they were just a month ago. So, as you'd expect, the outlook for the 2016 NFL Draft is different too. You can find my previous mock draft  here . Tennessee Titans – Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss – In free agency the Titans got themselves a running back in Demarco Murray and got Mariota a little help in Rishard Matthews, so they’re need for an o-lineman has only increased. Furthermore, all the combine did for Tunsil is secure his spot as the top tackle in the draft and give the Titans even more of a reason to see him as Mariota’s best friend going forward. Cleveland Browns – Jalen Ramsey, DB, Florida State – You’d think that QB would be the obvious choice for the Browns here, to me? No so much. The Brow...

Post 29 - 2016 NFL Mock Draft 1.0

Image
Hello! And Welcome to my corner! Football has been gone for 19 days now, and next season seems to be a lifetime away. However, that doesn't mean there aren't things to look forward to. At 2pm GMT (9am ET) yesterday, the on-field drills begin for the NFL Scouting Combine, and thus begins Draft season. Nearly two months of research and analyses into hundreds of NFL hopefulls, all culminating in the 2016 NFL Draft, starting Thursday April 28th and ending on Saturday April 30th. In that time, analyst will be churning out endless mock drafts predicting which teams will pick who, fantasising about what teams can do with their sparkly new toys so I figured I'd follow suit. With that, the Tennessee Titans are now on the clock! Tennessee Titans – Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss – The Titans have their quarterback, so it’s time to build around him. Taylor Lewan has been fine as a left tackle, but he is much better suited to the right side. By bringing in Tunsil, the T...

Post 17 - 2015 NFL Draft Day 2

Image
Hello! And welcome to my corner. Day 2 is over as we eagerly await the beginning of the 3rd and final day of the 2015 NFL Draft. The 2nd and 3rd rounds featured a lot more trades, players sliding, big shocks and some great value picks. Here are some of the biggest stories from day 2. To see every pick, click here. The Titans are building quite an offense. At the top of the 2nd round they drafted Dorial Green-Beckham of Missouri/Oklahoma. This gives Mariota (or possibly Mettenberger) an absolutely HUGE target to develop with, some people have even compared him to Megatron purely due to his size. However, he is very raw and there are a bunch of red flags next to his name for off the field issues that the Titans must keep in check. The Giants also got a big time player. In a trade with the Titans, they picked SS Landon Collins out of Alabama. Collins is a player that will be able to step up immediately, and the Giants need him to, they don't have enough safety's to...

Post 9 - Justin Forsett is back!

Image
Hello! And welcome to my corner. Justin Forsett is coming back to Baltimore. On Thursday he signed a 3-year, $9 million deal following a breakout year in which he ran for 1,266 yards and 8 touchdowns at 5.4 yards per carry and earned himself a trip to the pro bowl. By resigning him, we now have a much clearer sense of which direction we could go in the draft, effectively removing any chance of drafting Melvin Gordon or Todd Gurley. It is far more likely now, that in the first round we go after a receiver, tight end or a DB. At this point, I would say that receiver is most likely as the tight end class is very poor, probably not worthy of a first round pick and it's a similar story with DB's. As far as receivers go, I like Jaelen Strong. Of the top tier of receivers, I believe he has the greatest chance of falling to us. I would say Dorial Green-Beckham but during the Ravens Season Review Press Conference  Ozzie Newsome pretty much ruled out drafting a player with signi...

Post 6 - Who stood out? Combine Review

Image
Hello! And welcome to my corner! The combine is over, 323 guys have shown what they can do in front of legions of scouts and coaches. Some guys disappointed and others wowed, now all they have left are their pro day's to put the final touches on their draft stock. In the last article I picked out some guys to watch, here is how they did: Adrian Amos, Penn St, FS: Adrian ran a 4.56 second 40, a 7.09 second 3-cone drill, a 4.03 second* 20-yard shuttle, an 11.33 second* 60-yard shuttle, jumped 35.5 inches on the vertical and 10'2" on the broad jump. All of these good for the safeties. In drills he looked okay, he looked fluid, as he did on tape but (like a lot of the DB's) his hands weren't fantastic. I think he could still be worth a look if he is there in the 2nd or 3rd round.   Kurtis Drummond, Mich St, FS: Drummond ran a slightly disappointing 4.65 second 40, a 7.09 second 3-cone drill, a 4.33 second 20-yard shuttle and a 12.03 second 60-yard shuttle. ...
