NFL Week 6 Power Rankings

Image
Week 6 of the NFL season only served to complicate power rankings all over. On a weekly basis many teams seem capable of being the one of the best teams in the NFL or the worst. Be it the Los Angeles Rams or Dallas Cowboys falling off a cliff, the Kansas City Chiefs losing three straight at home, the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints winning four straight with their backup QB, the NFL has been chaos. So, this week represents a shake up, as it were, in how I looked at my Power Rankings. Ultimately, the top seven are, more often than not, going to beat the teams below them. The teams from eight to around 20 are going to be completely different teams from week-to-week - they're going to be frustrating and inconsistent.  So, without further ado, here are my Week 6 Power Rankings:  1. New England Patriots (6-0) A win is a win, but the offense needs to start clicking and showing steady performance. Brady and co. did well in the second half given the circum...

Road to the playoffs: Week 8 college football rankings

Image
Week 7 of the college football season gave us several games with potential playoff implications. #5 LSU hosted #7 Florida, #1 Alabama traveled to #24 Texas A&M and #6 Oklahoma faced #11 Texas, among others. There were a host of other great games this weekend and those results have shuffled my top 10 and completely changed the college football playoff outlook. Here is my top 10: 1. Alabama, 6-0 (SEC) 2. LSU, 6-0 (SEC) 3. Ohio State, 6-0 (Big Ten) 4. Clemson, 6-0 (ACC) 5. Oklahoma, 6-0 (Big 12) 6. Wisconsin, 6-0 (Big Ten) 7. Penn State, 6-0 (Big Ten) 8. Georgia, 5-1 (SEC) 9. Florida, 5-1 (SEC) 10. Notre Dame, 5-1 (Independent) The road to the playoffs is pretty simple for my top seven, they just have to win out and win their conference. That could mean, if these teams lose to no one but each other, the playoff four will be some combination from my top seven. However, some of the toughest games for each team are still upcoming, leaving the door ...

Introducing the XFL - The XFL player draft

Image
This offseason just gone saw a brief glimpse of what will hopefully become the norm: spring football. The Alliance of American Football, better known as the AAF, debuted and was supposed to show the future of football. Unfortunately, reportedly due to a misleading and selfish majority owner, a promising startup crumbled and folded after only eight of their 10 scheduled regular season games. I was disappointed. I’d researched and written in detail and length about the league. I’d spoken to its founder, Charlie Ebersol, along with Phil Savage, the Arizona Hotshots' general manager. Their vision for the league and belief in the league was incredible, and the early returns, on the field at least, were good and within the vision they had – one of providing entertaining, faster-paced, innovative and competitive football. It wasn’t to be. However, thankfully we still have the same to look forward to this spring. A re-launch of the XFL, the once defunct competitor to the NFL, is ar...

The XFL has announced its player pool ahead of its inaugural season starting in February. The XFL player draft will start on Tuesday October 15 and wrap up the following day. So who are these players? You can find them all listed by position here on Cabache’s Corner. QB | RB | WR | TE | OL | DE | DT | LB | CB | SAF Special teams is the most underappreciated position group. Despite Rich Eisen’s best efforts to make people see that punters are people too, and Pat McAfee’s efforts to bring special teams into the spotlight, most fans will still pay little attention to special teams until it goes wrong.
