NFL Week 11 Power Rankings

Image
Here we are. Thanksgiving. The best holiday of the year for nothing but the football. It also marks the official start of the NFL season, as how any team does over the next six games has the most impact of any stretch of the season. Can the Pittsburgh Steelers stay undefeated and keep hold of the number one seed in the AFC? Can the New Orleans Saints ride Taysom Hill to the number one seed in the NFC? Will the New York Jets manage to mess up getting the number one overall pick? With just six games remaining, the only mathematical certainty is that the New York Jets won’t make the playoffs, everything else is still to play for. So, with all of the answers to those questions and more ahead of us, how does the power share in the NFL look heading into the final six weeks of the NFL season?  1. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-0) Another week, another win. The Steelers remain undefeated, and it is time we acknowledge that they really could go undefeated in the regular season. They have a...

NFL Week 10 Power Rankings

Image
Another week is done as the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears wrapped up Week 10 in truly unspectacular fashion. In truth, Week 10 wasn’t necessarily the most exciting week of football – save the Buffalo Bills’ and Arizona Cardinals’ wild matchup – but it did provide several significant results. Two teams lost their third game in the last four, having started the season 5-0, and division title races and wild card races inched closer as the season’s end draws near. Now, as we approach Thanksgiving, this is how my Power Rankings stand through Week 10. 1. Pittsburgh Steelers (9-0) +1 Having fallen to the level of their opponent last week, the Steelers avoided such a scenario this week as they confidently handled the Cincinnati Bengals. Ben Roethlisberger sliced the Bengals’ defense apart with ease, while the defense was as stifling as ever. I think the Chiefs may be a better team, but the AFC runs through Pittsburgh, so until that isn’t the case they have to remain above their c...

NFL Week 9 Power Rankings

Image
We’re officially on to the back end of the regular season as the playoff picture becomes more and more clear. There is obviously still a lot of football to be played, with many juicy matchups still on the slate. At this point, it feels like the two teams atop the Power Ranking have a gap between them and the rest of the top ten, while the difference between teams three though nine seems almost negligible. All of them have what appear to be fatal flaws, but will unquestionably be in the mix until the latest possible moment. Meanwhile, there is a group of 5-3 teams who will all be jockeying for the final playoff spots, but again there is not a lot to separate much of those teams. On the whole, no team feels unbeatable, but there is certainly an upper echelon of teams. Can they close out the season and solidify their positions? We’ll see, but here are how things stand in my Power Rankings with just eight game weeks left on the schedule. 1.  Pittsburgh Steelers (8-0)  In back ...

NFL Week 8 Power Rankings

Image
We are officially at the half way point of the season as the trade deadline has passed us and the push for the playoffs really kicks into gear. Week 8 had the usual collection of frantic finishes, blowouts, heavyweight matchups, and snooze fests, but the dynamic of the 2020 NFL season is pretty much known now. Teams are mostly what they are at this point, but the parity among the teams in the middle of the pack is bound to create a number of wild scenarios as the playoff picture comes into focus. But, at the midpoint of the season, how does the power in the NFL balance out? 1. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-0)  One look at the stat sheet and you would be forgiven for thinking the scoreboard was wrong, but the Steelers went into Baltimore and knocked off the Ravens. They just found a way to win the game and stay undefeated. Despite not having the best game they found a way to win and came up with big plays when they needed them, which is often the sign of great teams. 2. Kansas City Chi...
