NFL Week 7 Power Rankings

Image
Week 7 has come and gone as we furiously approach the trade deadline and halfway point of the regular season. This week has seen a fair amount of movement in my Power Rankings, but as the season progresses the power structure is becoming clearer. There are three clear groups where the teams within those groups are all fairly evenly matched. Is there much to separate the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers? Or the Buffalo Bills and the Carolina Panthers? I don’t think so. So, without further ado, here is my updated Week 7 Power Rankings. 1. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-0) +2 It’s hard not to put an undefeated team atop the Power Rankings, especially when they’re coming off a significant win over a formerly undefeated team. The Steelers are the team to beat in the NFL, it’s that simple. The offense is capable of scoring in bunches, and the defense is fierce. This coming week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens has huge ramifications in the conference. 2. Kansas City Chiefs (6-1) On a day...

NFL Week 6 Power Rankings

Image
I can’t be the only one who thinks Monday night double headers, or Tuesday Night Football, should replace Thursday Night Football, right? It makes the return of the work week so much more tolerable knowing there are still two games of the week remaining. But, I digress. Week 6 definitely didn’t disappoint as the landscape of the NFL continues to shift and re-form, with unexpected twists and turns coming every weekend. Here are my Week 6 Power Rankings. 1.        Seattle Seahawks (5-0) The Seahawks had a bye, but the Kansas City Chiefs are right on their heals. For the Seahawks to stay atop the NFL they need to show more from their defense.  2.        Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) Monday evening’s game was somewhat disappointing. Though the scoreline isn’t particularly one sided, the game never really felt in doubt for the Chiefs. The offense ran all over the Bills’ defense, and they didn’t even have Le’Veon Bell to co...

Potential landing spots for Le'Veon Bell

Image
It was about time Le’Veon Bell was off the New York Jets. It’s strange saying that considering he joined the team in 2019, but when the GM who signed him was fired before the season started it was clear something was wrong.  Head coach Adam Gase and Bell never seemed on the same page, and there was a constant sense of animosity between the two. Those impressions have obviously borne out, as after just 17 games, and $28 million, Le’Veon Bell is a free agent . His release, however, comes after weeks of efforts to trade the running back. In fact, the Jets’ efforts to trade Bell date back to last year’s trade deadline. But alas, no takers. For a back of Bell’s talent, it seems shocking there would be no takers, even for late-round pick compensation. While the trade market may have never get going, the free agency market should be bigger, with several teams already rumored to be interested. Below are the teams I see as the best fits or most likely destinations.  Chicago Bears ...

NFL Week 5 Power Rankings

Image
After an extra day and one postponed game, Week 5 is over and it certainly didn’t lack drama.  From upsets in Kansas City and Santa Clara, to statements in Tennessee and Seattle, there is an awful lot to talk about in the NFL as the power landscape continues to shift. Many teams made big jumps this week, like the Tennessee Titans rising five spots, while others slid way down, like the San Francisco 49ers dropping eight places, and we have a new team at the top. Here are my Week 5 Power Rankings. 1. Seattle Seahawks (5-0) +2 Is there a better player in the NFL right now than Russell Wilson? Th e answer is no. The team around him has shortcomings, particularly defensively when Jamal Adams is out of the lineup, but it just doesn’t matter. With Wilson in his current form, the Seahawks are equipped to overcome all issues better than any other team. That’s why they’re now number one. What’s more, DK Metcalf is well on his way to becoming the most dominant receiver in football. 2....

NFL Week 4 Power Rankings

Image
In a year that has dragged on, with a new wave of bad news and struggles seemingly every week, the NFL season is still managing to fly by. That’s part of the reason that here at the end of Week 4 I’m only just getting around to doing my first Power Rankings. So let’s get straight into it. 1. Kansas City Chiefs (4-0) Is there really any question here? There is an inevitability to this team. An aura that surrounded the Patriots for so many years. The Chiefs' win over the Patriots wasn’t the most convincing if you look at the whole game, but when they have the ball on offense there is no doubt they can ultimately find a way to score whenever they need to. And they have a great defense, too. 2. Buffalo Bills (4-0) I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I spent a long time wracking my brain trying to find a reason to not have the Bills as the second best team in the NFL, but alas, here we are. 2020, right? Seriously though, the defense is talented at every level and playing well, ...
